It is... impossible for me to list all of the teachers who made an
impact on my life at LCS, because every single one of them did.
While I may not remember how to spell all of their names, I
remember each one and can point to individual influences that they've
had on my life, including ones I would never have expected, and I bet
they wouldn't have expected either.
I think I have to start with Pastor and Mrs. O, who did everything
they could to help me, including going out of their way to make sure I
could continue to attend school there when tuition became a problem for
my family. They allowed me to work for the school after school and
during summer camp, and I know I would not be the man I am today had I
not had the opportunity to attend LCS.
Mrs. Spicer had a tremendous impact on me in a way I wouldn't
expect, the short lived Drama elective during one of my high school
hears that she headed up formed the basis for my hobby in Theater.
Which is an important part of my life now. I've been in two college
plays and hope to get to do some local community theater soon. Also my
appreciation for drama is at an all time high. I love movies that are
more like plays now, especially the once again gaining popularity Genre
of Movie Musicals, particularly Movie Musicals based on Broadway
Musicals, or produced in a similar style. I also attend the theater
when I can and love watching productions.
Mrs. Baird instilled within me a love of writing that did not exist
before I attended LCS. And to this day I find myself writing whenever I
can. I have an article published in a legal magazine, another couple on
the way, and two novels sitting on my computer that I hope to finish
one day. Thank you Mrs. Baird, for instilling that love of writing in
me. I think you would be most surprised to see how I've progressed from
that nerdy boy who couldn't put two sentences together.
There are so many other ways I can say how each teacher at LCS had
an impact upon me, and perhaps I'll write more later, but I wanted to
end this post with a tribute to Carl Sandberg, who was my mentor
throughout my entire tenure at LCS. From the very first day I showed up
at the school, till beyond the time I left, he was a tutor,
inspiration, and friend. He fostered my interest in working with
computers, which carries on today with my career as a web programmer
for Justia Inc. He guided me through my studies of Latin. Most
importantly though, Carl Sandberg impressed upon all of us his love of
learning. As long as I knew him, he never stopped studying himself, and
that, is the greatest lesson any teacher can teach, to love to learn,
and to always seek knowledge.
